Welcome to the Ellon Academy Web Navigation page. This page will try and make it easier for you to navigate our site. Let's start with the main navigation bar. To skip to something else, please use these links:

<—This thing on the left of the screen is the navigation bar.
Here it is again —>
As you can see, there are lots of buttons on it.
Below the title (Ellon Academy Web), there are two green arrows and a small picture of the world.
The green arrows provide the same functionality as the forward and back buttons on your web browser. The green arrow pointing to left returns you to the previous page and the green arrow pointing to the right returns you to the page you have just left by clicking the left green arrow (or the Back button in your browser).
For example:
If you were viewing the home page and then navigated to the "About Ellon Academy" page, you could click the left arrow to return to the home page and then the right arrow to return to the "About Ellon Academy" page.
The green arrows also light up when you hover your mouse over them.
Between the two arrows is a small picture of the world, when you hover your mouse over it, a small magnifying glass appears and the words "Search WWW" spin around the world.
You can click this at any time to go to our "Search the Web" page. From here you can use a selection of search engines to search the web.
The main buttons on the navigation bar are the ones that are labeled (e.g. Help). These are used to reach most of the areas of our site. Some buttons open directly onto a page (e.g. Help) while others open a sub menu where you need to click another option (e.g. Departments).
For example:
To navigate to the Art Department
pages click "Departments" and then "Art and Design".
The main buttons light up blue when the mouse is hovered over them. Buttons that light up blue then flash between blue and red indicate that the specified section of the site is only avaliable within Ellon Academy.
At all times when using a sub menu there is a button labeled "< Back" in yellow located at the bottom of the navigation bar. By clicking on this, the navigation bar will return to the main menu.
Please Note: By clicking the "< Back" button from a sub menu, only the navigator will change. The page you are viewing will be unaffected.
Like all web sites, this one also contains links.
In this site, unused links are a orange colour, used ones are blue and ones
that are hovered over (with the mouse) are green. On this site, all links
have
underlines, except for the ones that are hovered over with a mouse.
Throughout our site you will find green arrows pointing to the left and others pointing up.
By clicking on the left pointing arrows you will be taken to the previous page you visited.
These arrows perform the same function as the left green arrow on the navigation bar and the "Back" button on you browser.
By clicking on an upwards pointing arrow you will be taken to the top of the page.
Try them. This is the "back" arrow. This is the "top" arrow.
Throughout our site you will come across other forms on navigation. These are much less common than the navigation bar and links. The main ones are explained here.
On the home page of our site there are three symbols at the top of our page. A picture of the world (like in the navigation bar), the school emblem and a letter.
By hovering your mouse over each one, an animation will run and a label describing where they lead will be shown. By clicking on them you will be taken to "Search the Web", "About Ellon Academy" or "Contact Details".
Some areas of our site may have their own navigation bars running across the top of the screen. These are used to get to areas within the specific section.
For example:
The "About Ellon Academy" has one of these. It can be used to link to things like the schools chaplains page and maps of the school. All things that are part of the "About Ellon Academy" section of our site.
These navigation bars may have drop down menus that can be activated by hovering your mouse over them. Their use is quite straight forward and shouldn't cause too much concern.
If you have any other problems in the navigation of this site, please contact the Web Team. Details are given on the main "Help" page and under "Contact Details".
