General Overview

History

In 1997, a small group of senior pupils decided to create a web site on the general election. This site won Microsoft's "Road Ahead" competition which was open to all secondary schools the UK. Not long after, a second team produced a web site for our "Positive Relationships" theme week. This site won the Research Machines/RGU “Webmasters” competition. With the combined prize total of £12,500 and some help from Winchester's Solicitors, Ellon Academy created it's Information and Technology Centre (I.T. Centre). The two sites were then merged into the archive of the newly created Ellon Academy Web. Sadly, we haven't won anything (at least that I know of), although we were "Website of the Month" on the Learning and Teaching Scotland website in April 2005.

The Ellon Academy Web in it's current incarnation, was created in the term of 2004/2005 by a group of hard working individuals in the Web Site Committee. They were/are Niall Emmerson (Chairman); Rory McWhirter; Martin Ness. Our link teacher deserves to be mentioned too, Mr D. Cordiner.

Layout

The Ellon Academy Web consists of a frameset and various Macromedia Flash components. The navigation frame and the main frame (see below) comprise the frame set, while the navigation bar itself, and several other components are programmed in Flash. If you can see the navigation bar on the left of the screen, then you already have a browser capable or supporting frames and at least Flash Player 6 installed. (Our web site should check for these when you enter our site).

Our site comprises several different areas which can be accessed through the navigation bar. These areas are; Home (includes home page and recent news); Departments (these are the school's departmental pages); Information; Search (web search and site search); Staff Web; Pupil Support; Policies (school policies); Links (www links); Archive (including events, projects and local image archives); Prospectus; Index; and Help (this section).

Information Section

The information section contains many details about our school, if you can not what you are looking for in the sub menu of the navigation bar, please try our "About Ellon Academy" page. This is our main information page and contains many links to pages unavailable elsewhere and as such, has it's own navigation bar (see navigation help).

Staff Web

The Staff Web is a resource for Ellon Academy staff and is only available from within the school buildings.

Further Information

We have developed this site to be as easy to use as possible and will be able to learn your way around it by exploration. However, if you would like further information, you can contact the web team.
